Author Kate Clark came to me with a clear creative goal: bring the psychological depth and atmospheric tension of her thrillers to life through compelling cover art.
For her debut novel, the challenge was to visually capture an eerie yet strikingly beautiful setting—something that hinted at unease without giving too much away. The final artwork resonated so strongly that it led to a second commission for her sequel, creating a cohesive visual identity across the series.
The response went beyond print: the original cover design was so meaningful to the author that she had it permanently tattooed on her arm—a true testament to the emotional impact of the work.
A third novel in the series is scheduled for release in 2026.
BUTTERFLY
Butterfly is the debut psychological thriller from author Kate Clark, set along the fog-soaked edges of the Puget Sound in Washington. The story follows a serial killer with a disturbing obsession with human anatomy—collecting it with the same precision and ritual as an insect enthusiast.
Kate came to me with a vivid concept: a butterfly with part of its wing rubbed away to reveal exposed bone, suspended above a dark, mist-filled forest path. The cover needed to feel haunting, symbolic, and immediately unsettling.
I sourced and composited multiple images in Photoshop to bring her idea to life—blending textures, anatomical elements, lighting, and environmental details to create a seamless, atmospheric final scene. The result is a visually striking cover that merges beauty with dread, perfectly aligning with the book’s tone.
ORB WEAVER
Orb Weaver is the chilling sequel to Butterfly, continuing Kate Clark’s dark, atmospheric world set near the misty forests of the Pacific Northwest. For this installment, Kate wanted the cover to revolve around the unsettling beauty of an orb weaver spider, paired with a Victorian-style home—mirroring key elements of the story’s setting.
I created the cover using a series of carefully sourced images, composited and blended in Photoshop to build the final scene. After exploring several concepts, the chosen direction features a close-up of an orb weaver against a dew-covered web, set in front of an old Victorian porch with a mystical, shadowy forest stretching beyond.
The end result delivers the eerie, suspenseful tone Kate was aiming for—connecting visually with the first book while elevating the sense of dread and mystery for the sequel.

CALLIGRAPHA
Calligrapha, the third installment in Kate Clark’s psychological thriller series, was released in early 2026 and is now available on Amazon. Continuing Kate’s dark, atmospheric world set near the misty forests of the Pacific Northwest, this cover design began with an AI-generated image that captured the key elements she envisioned: a mysterious forest, calligrapha beetles, and lupine flowers. While the image established the right atmosphere, it lacked the narrative depth needed to bring the story to life.
Using carefully sourced imagery, I selectively sampled elements from the original AI-generated concept and composited them in Photoshop to create a richly layered, suspenseful scene. After exploring several concepts, the final composition features a dark, shadowy forest as the backdrop for a close-up perspective of an exposed skull emerging from the earth, crawling with three distinct calligrapha beetles. Wisps of ethereal mist rise from the ground, creating the unsettling impression of a spirit stirring beneath the surface. The result is an eerie, foreboding scene that captures the creeping dread and deepening mystery at the heart of Kate’s evolving psychological thriller series.
